Every time I have to choose the theme of the new collection, I am very excited, but also very determined. I trust the intuitions, as happened for this new spring / summer 2019 collection.
The circus theme was born in a flash and I was immediately hooked. I caught a glimpse of a tent just arrived in town as I went to the laboratory, like every morning, and there I remembered how fascinated I was by this world when I was little. Every time a caravan arrived and stopped in my country, I wondered where they came from and where they were headed. Their wandering and their profound freedom made everything fascinating.
The magical world of the circus, the one without animals, however, which has always made me very sad. Performing are real professionals, acrobats, trapeze artists, jugglers, all united by an immense passion and dedication, by the sacrifice that every day leads them to train to amaze every single spectator. The same passion and dedication that every day I also try to convey with my work, inventing new models, testing new work processes, dreaming of new color combinations.
The inspiration: the fantastic world of the circus!
I remember when I first saw the photo of the famous French tightrope walker Philippe Petit , who crossed the Twin Towers hanging from a thread at a height of 400 meters, in 1974.
He walked on a rope suspended from tower to tower, and just looking at this photo and imagining his concentration could I get the chills.
It is from that moment that I have always felt an immense adoration for the figure of the tightrope walker. Once, when I was still studying in Bologna, I saw a man walking on a wire between two buildings and I was enchanted, and at the same time my thoughts immediately flew to the photo of Philippe who bravely defied gravity.
Obviously, what I appreciate most about these artists is their propensity for training, for work done with passion, which also reminds me so much of my story! They are brave artists, pure creatives who try to improve themselves every day, devoted to freedom and wonder.
And then, another thing I love about the circus is the atmosphere of welcome, collaboration and joy that involves everyone, creating an intimate relationship with the public. The smile as a bridge between two people, the magic and poetry of a world where everything is possible!
The models
And here they are my new creations. Among the models you will recognize those that have already stolen your heart in the past, from the lively Dandy to the delicate and dreamy Almond model. There are also novelties, such as the Clown model, inspired by the famous Chanel low model, comfortable and feminine, or the Trapezio and Frida models, which will immediately bring to mind the circus atmospheres for style and colors.
Here, let's talk about colors! The main ones are pastel colors such as vintage green, ocher yellow, orange, in contrast with strong colors such as red and bluette. There is no shortage of red striped prints on a cream background, yellow or black and white polka dots, and the checkered print, another novelty in this collection.
You will also have noticed some nice characters that have invaded the social networks and that you now see on my shoes: dreamy acrobats, funny jugglers and funny tightrope walkers. They were all born from the pencil of Giuditta Chiaraluce, an illustrator from the Marche who made these drawings especially for me. Creativity is essential from uniqueness!
